[Was it all a jream?] Chapter 004 - The History

Continued from Chapter 003 - The Big Event

Long before the world separated into the Real and the Shadow, in an ancient kingdom long berethed of a name, a race known as the Geeks warred amongst each other. The kingdom was separated into several body-states, with the Spartheads and the Trolegs being amongst the powerful. Yet, even with all the great turmoils begotten by endless seiges and savage destruction, the Geeks held one common ancestral bond: the Soulympics.

Every four years, all fightings are ceased and each body-states send in their greatest Soul Warriors to partake in the Soulympics. The greatest Soul Warriors are crowned Nerds, the most coveted title given to a Geek. The Soulympics gave way to some of the greatest Nerds of all time, such as Backilles and Hectoe. Sadly, the Soulympics came to an end when Helen of Sparth became Helen of Trol, which sparked the greatest battle the world as ever seen, the Troleg War.

The aftermath of the Troleg War sliced the dimensions of the world in half: the Real and the Shadow. It was the Shadow world which gave birth to modern day Soulympics. And it is in the Soulympics that Jerms will find a most difficult decision he will ever have to make.

--------

Pu was quiet as he thought about the Soulympics. Was it right of him to have Jerms risk his life and shadow to partake in a dangerous quest in which he, himself, failed so many years ago? How could the Caring One be sure that Jerms is the O.N.E.? In some ways, he is jealous of the thought, but the benefits reaped from Jerms being the O.N.E. shoved all jealousy aside. Even if he has to risk Jerm's limbs, he must see the task to the end, as the Caring One commands!

He could still feel the binding power of the COW, as Jerms refered to it.

"And youth have broughthh himssss?" hissed the Caring One, formless and shrouded in a dark cloud of mystery.

"Yes, my Willness," Pu replied. "He who You have sought has been bounded by Your Will and cannot return to the Real without Your Forgiveness."

"Isssss he hurtsss?"

"No, my Willness. All is as You decree. He is but a shadow in our world, invulnerable and ignorant of the Death Plague's seductive power."

"And whath beees your anaalysisssss?"

"There are great potentials within him, an untapped source of unlimited power, just waiting to be unleashed. But he is also untamed. I fear not even I can control him."

"Buth controllllss must you havesss. For withouthh controllsss..." A thin, elongulated head protuded out of the dark cloud and turned to stare at Pu with one of its slitted golden eyes. "...All mayth be lostssssss."

A voice stirred Pu out of his thought.

"Yo! Yooowhoo! Mr. Poop or something? Are you going to tell me what the Big Boss told you?"

It was Jerms. They were resting beside a shadow tree. "Big Boss?" questioned Pu. Boy, that boy can be obnoxious! After his meeting with the Caring One, Pu was instructed to prepare Jerms for the Bodycathlon in whatever manner he deemed fitting.

"The COW or Caring One or whatever."

"Oh. First, it's Pu. Second, you may call me Master. And third: No. He just confirmed the idea to have you participate in the Soulympics if you are to return home."

"And the Bodycathlon?" Jerms looked perplex. Well, it wouldn't hurt to give him an idea of what he will be facing.

"The Bodycathlon is the premier event of the Soulympics. It consists of 10 individual events and is the ultimate test of endurance, power, and intelligence."

"Intelligence? When is a sporting event a test of intelligence?"

"Who said anything about a sporting event? The Soulympics is not just about physical strength, my Pudiwan learner; it pushes your entire body to the extreme, your brain is a part of it."

Pu got up and withdrew a shadow stick from the shadows. In the air he made a few strokes with he shadow stick and then waved his left hand over them. As he waved, 10 burning symbols appeared, magically hovering without any physical support. Jerms' eyes widen in astonishment. Pu secretly chuckled; that gets them everytime.

"The Bodycathlon encompasses all the events of the Soulympics in one." As he spoke, Pu pointed to each symbol with the shadow stick. "The 100 Eyelid Crunches, your speciality, is the first event. Then comes the Long Nose Lift," Jerms rubbed his nose in memory of his first encounter with Pu, "the High Ear Flap, the Shot Pist, and the 400 Head Nodding rounds out the first day. Your Head Nodding technique still needs work, my boy." Pu gave Jerms a wink and he stopped nodding his head as if he fully understand everything that is being said.

"On the second day," Pu continued, "you will compete in the 110 inch Finger Hurdle, the Tantrum Throw, the Toe Vault, the Spinalin Throw, and the great 1500 minute Brain Freeze."

Jerms looked awry and at a lost. "Man, that's a lot of stuff. How am I going to compete when I don't even know anything about 90% of events?"

"That, my Pudiwan, is where I come in. Follow me and I will show you your destiny." Jerms got up and followed Pu along the shadow road that leads into, well, more shadow. As they walk, forms begin to take hold around them. Behind them, the forms disappeared into shadows again.

"As the last remaining Judge-Eye Shadow Master," Pu informed Jerms, "I am to teach you how to use the Source to your advantage."

"Source?"

"Soul Force. We call it Source for short. It is the embodiment of the Shadow and the Real, the single point which connects the two and from which you came through. By touching the Source, it has touched you and awaken a gift within you. How you use this gift will be purely up to you and your Will."

Pu stopped short. The forms became more solid at every passing seconds. Jerms' jaw dropped in awe when the forms fully solidified.

"Welcome to the Judge-Eye Proving Ground."

May the Caring One be right about this one.
